Why data protection is important

In fact, data is more present than ever in our world today. Each of us is constantly generating data streams - in the most diverse areas of life: whether using our cell phones, in road traffic or online shopping.

We do this in ways we are aware and in ways we are not aware. Improper use of data, however, can violate people's privacy. This is exactly why data protection regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) are so important.

The GDPR is a regulation of the European Union.

Happy Birthday, DSGVO!

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a regulation of the European Union (EU) and celebrates its third birthday in these weeks. It was first drafted by the European Commission in 2016. However, companies and website operators have only had to apply it on a mandatory basis since May 25, 2018. It defines rules that are intended to give people more control over their personal data.

With 99 individual articles, the GDPR is considered the strongest data protection set of rules in the world. It aims to ensure that both people and companies can benefit from the digital economy. According to the EU, the GDPR is intended to "harmonize" data protection laws in its member states and offer individuals more data protection and privacy rights.

What exactly is the GDPR about?

The GDPR attaches great importance to transparency, the protection of personal data is a central element of the regulation. For example, the following data is classified as personal: name, address, telephone number, date of birth, bank details or license plate.

There are also special categories of personal data, such as biometric data, health data, political opinions, religious or ideological beliefs.

Data protection at TUNAP

Data protection is an important concern of TUNAP. That is why we obtain the consent of our website users before we collect and process their data. When you visit the website, a cookie, a small file, can be saved in the Internet browser.

This makes it possible to fill the shopping cart in the TUNAP online shop without having to identify yourself again on each subsequent shop page. Cookies are also used to determine, for example, whether YouTube videos that are integrated into TUNAP websites can be displayed to visitors.

The information in a cookie file can therefore contain personal data - but on the condition that the consent of the website users has been obtained explicitly beforehand via a so-called cookie consent banner.
